Porsche’s terrible 2025 crashes the main shareholder of the VW Group.

The holding company controlled by the Porsche-Piëch family, the main shareholder of the Volkswagen Group, saw its adjusted profit after taxes halt at 2.9 billion euros, down about 9% compared to the previous year. Hi-tech investments are doing well, however. And now it is looking towards defense.

Porsche SE, the holding company controlled by the Porsche-Piëch family and the main shareholder of the Volkswagen Group, closed a forgettable 2025 and considering the accounts of the Stuttgart-based company and the Wolfsburg manufacturer it could not have been otherwise.

PORSCHE SE’S 2025 IN NUMBERS

According to what was announced today, the adjusted profit after taxes stopped at 2.9 billion euros, down about 9% compared to the previous year. The costs of both the automotive group as a whole and Porsche AG weighed heavily. Net debt slightly decreased to 5.1 billion from 5.2 billion.

DO QUANTUM AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE RUN FASTER THAN CARS?

A positive sign comes from the portfolio of smaller investments, which generated 193 million euros in profit. Among the most significant contributions are Quantum Systems with 114 million and Celestial AI with 47 million. The total value of the portfolio has almost doubled to about 535 million since the end of 2024.

FORECASTS FOR 2026

For 2026, the company expects an adjusted profit after taxes between 1.5 and 3.5 billion euros, with net debt expected between 4.7 and 5.2 billion, a wide range reflecting the high uncertainty of the macroeconomic and industrial framework.

What is certain is that German cars have ended up on the margins of the Chinese market despite being the first to establish a presence there. Furthermore, Chinese competition, even in premium sectors, risks impacting volumes and as if all this were not enough, Trump’s tariffs strongly affect margins. A big problem for the holding company of the German automotive dynasty Porsche-Piëch, which is currently the largest investor in Volkswagen with 31.9% of the capital and 53.3% of the voting rights and holds 12.5% of the sports car manufacturer Porsche AG in its portfolio.

Also for this reason, Porsche SE is exploring opportunities in the defense sector as part of its diversification strategy. The group has just announced an investment of 100 million euros in a new defense fund launched by the investment company DTCP focused on European tech startups in areas such as cyber-defense and artificial intelligence.
