New large-scale recall campaign across Europe for Stellantis. Once again the numbers are significant, especially considering that at the center of it all is once again the 1.5 Blue HDi which last July led to the recall in France and several European countries of 636,000 diesel cars (Peugeot, Citroën, Opel/Vauxhall and DS) produced between 2017 and 2023. The new campaign will involve 50,000 units.
THE 1.5 BLUE HDi ENGINE STILL CAUSES PROBLEMS
It all seems to be due to an incorrect positioning of the cone inside the common rail injection system which can cause the nut to loosen, with the consequent risk of fuel leakage. A potential fire hazard is not excluded either, although at present the defect does not appear to have caused any accidents of any kind.
Possible signs that something is wrong, obviously beyond the illumination of the engine symbol on the dashboard, also include irregular idling, starting difficulties, loss of power and possibly an increase in fuel consumption.
THE MODELS INVOLVED AND THE NUMEROUS PRECEDENTS
Since the 1.5 Blue HDi engine is particularly widespread in the garages of the Italo-French Group and is mounted both on family and commercial vehicles, the audience affected by this new recall campaign is once again quite large.
For Peugeot, the 308, Rifter, Partner and Expert are involved. For Citroën, the recall will cover Berlingo, Jumpy and first-generation C5 Aircross. For DS the recall concerns the DS 7, while Opel involves Astra, Combo and Vivaro. The list closes with Fiat with the commercial vehicles Doblò and Scudo.
Last year’s recall followed an analysis campaign conducted in France last year on 760,000 Peugeot and Citroën vehicles produced between January 2018 and December 2021. Given the recurring problems, the Italo-French Group last summer decided to proceed with measures in favor of its users: extended warranty up to 10 years or 240,000 kilometers.
