In a normal country and situation, the acknowledgment by the Milan magistrates of having been “diligent but not perceptive” in handling the pardon case later granted by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella to Nicole Minetti would have been enough to close the case by revoking the favorable opinion. And allowing the Head of State to also revoke his generosity. But Italy is not a normal country, nor is the political situation after the government’s referendum defeat on the constitutional reform of the judiciary and the consequent and early opening of a campaign for elections that, however, might not be early, since the mandate of the Chambers elected in the autumn 2022 elections expires in a year and a half.
In such a long electoral campaign, everything grows. Even the suspicion, felt and denounced by l’Unità, that a racket has been raised against the pardon for Minetti, definitively convicted to unserved sentences for incitement to prostitution and embezzlement, aiming to weaken the image and whatever else of the Head of State. And to induce him to resign three years before the end of his second term. Something from which, however, it seems to me that Mattarella is not really tempted, having publicly protested against those who misled him and thus started an opposition campaign not against the Milan magistrates who have practically confessed guilt and rushed to further investigations, but against the Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio, instead shielded by the confidence publicly confirmed to him by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
It is, however, in the last matryoshka doll of this unfortunate pardon — I repeat yesterday’s oxymoron — that the secret is hidden. A doll bearing the effigy of Silvio Berlusconi from whom, although dead for three years, the figure of Minetti from the bunga bunga and more still does not want to detach, to bring back the deceased to demonization. And to deflate the tires of the sons who, having economically inherited the Forza Italia party, have for some time given the impression of wanting to reposition it in the perspective of an electoral tie, whenever it may be, and the consequent new government balances. Thus it is (if you think so), Pirandellianly.
