The super-rich have been funding for years biotech companies that can guarantee them a life, if not eternal, at least longer than nature would allow. And with the advent of artificial intelligence, the economic opportunity appears even more interesting since a recent UBS analysis estimated that the global “longevity” industry is currently worth about $5.3 trillion and could reach $8 trillion by 2030, supported by an aging population and growing demand for preventive technologies.

Insilico Medicine, a biotechnology company based in Hong Kong, will collaborate with the US-based Human Longevity to co-develop the sector’s first AI foundation model dedicated to longevity science.

THE LONGEVITY PROJECT

The partnership involves Insilico Medicine and Human Life Foundation Models, a company born from Human Longevity with the goal of building multimodal artificial intelligence models dedicated to human longevity. The agreement foresees the development of an AI system designed to decipher the biological mechanisms of aging, predict disease risk, and promote preventive and personalized medicine.

The system, explains Bloomberg, will use clinical, genomic, and biological data collected from thousands of people to identify health risks early and support the discovery of new therapies. Insilico will provide AI technologies and algorithms, while Human Longevity will contribute its data archive built over more than ten years of research.

WHAT INSILICO DOES

Founded as a biotech company focused on artificial intelligence, Insilico Medicine operates in drug discovery for oncology, immunology, pain, obesity, fibrosis, and metabolic disorders. The company has been listed on the main board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange since December 30, 2025.

Longevity has been one of the company’s central themes since its inception. As EurekAlert recalls, in 2015, during an Nvidia conference, Alex Zhavoronkov, founder and CEO of Insilico Medicine, caught the sector’s attention with the question “Can Nvidia cure aging?”. More recently, Insilico announced the creation of the first longevity board in the biotech sector, chaired by Andrew Adams of Eli Lilly and Company, to accelerate AI-driven aging research. Furthermore, since 2014, the company has published over 50 scientific studies dedicated to age biomarkers, therapeutic targets, and longevity-related treatments.

WHAT HUMAN LONGEVITY AND HLFM DO

Human Longevity, on the other hand, was founded in 2013 with the goal of integrating genomics, artificial intelligence, and multimodal diagnostics to extend healthy lifespan through prevention tools and personalized medicine. From the company was born Human Life Foundation Models, an entity focused on building multimodal foundation models based on large amounts of biological and clinical data.

The new collaboration with Insilico aims to transform these data archives into advanced predictive tools capable of synthesizing millions of scientific studies, genomic datasets, and currently fragmented clinical information. According to the companies, the project could help shift the global healthcare paradigm from a reactive approach to disease towards preventive medicine oriented to longevity.

THE ROLE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

The initiative is part of the growth of AI applied to healthcare and pharmaceutical research. The models developed by the two companies will also be intended for the commercial market and can be used by researchers and medical companies. The declared goal is to accelerate early diagnosis of age-related diseases, the discovery of new therapeutic targets, and the development of AI-driven personalized treatments.

“Longevity and extending healthy life represent one of the most complex challenges in biology,” Zhavoronkov stated. “This collaboration,” he continued, “aims to create a true foundation model for human health capable of early identifying disease risks, discovering new therapeutic targets, and accelerating the development of longevity therapies with unprecedented precision.”

Wei-Wu He, Executive Chairman of Human Longevity, also emphasized the project’s scope: “We are taking an important step towards creating a true foundation model for human health and longevity, a tool capable of predicting complex diseases decades before their onset and guiding interventions to extend healthy life.”

THE CHALLENGES OF RESEARCH

Despite growing interest in artificial intelligence in medicine, the sector remains in an early stage. No drug entirely discovered through AI has yet reached the market, and many biotech startups have experienced clinical failures or halted development programs. Drug validation requires years of trials and high costs, a process even more complex in the case of anti-aging therapies, whose effects may emerge only after decades.

An additional obstacle concerns the very definition of aging. Currently, it is not classified as a disease and there are no shared standards to establish the effectiveness of potential treatments. Some companies, including Insilico, are therefore developing drugs with possible “dual use,” designed for specific diseases but with potential anti-aging properties.
