The President of the United States Donald Trump has stated that a memorandum of understanding with Iran, which will also reopen the Strait of Hormuz, has been “largely negotiated” and will be announced soon. The Iranian news agency Fars, however, claimed that the agreement would allow Iran to manage the strait, according to Reuters.

Among many other elements of the agreement, the Strait of Hormuz will be opened.”

According to some sources reported by Reuters, Iran and Pakistan have sent the United States a revised ceasefire proposal aimed at ending the war and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Based on information released by Axios, the green light is imminent, with the last disagreements mainly limited to the “wording” of some key points of the text. A US official familiar with the talks spoke of an understanding now defined in the main contents. The Iranian proposal, the basis for the agreement, would include reopening the Strait of Hormuz, unblocking frozen assets, and continuing the dialogue.

Trump has long stated that any agreement must prevent Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. On the Iranian side, sources cited by Fars News Agency and IRNA emphasize that Tehran’s priority remains the end of hostilities and the unblocking of frozen financial resources abroad, while the nuclear issue would be addressed in a later phase, within 30–60 days. The spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry Esmail Baghaei reportedly warned that without greater flexibility from the US side, talks risk stalling, while leaving the door open to a broader understanding.
