“The Seasons of a Life” is a biographical novel that tells the stories of Domenico Gasparri – General of the Carabinieri who passed away in 2017, father of Maurizio – and his brother Albino. The parallel lives of the two brothers, written by their nephew Francesco Puccio and published out of commerce, cover a century of history between emigration, social redemption, and political commitment, starting from the village of Roscigno Vecchia. An Italian story that, after the presentation held in Cava de’ Tirreni, the senator President of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Commission will recall tomorrow, June 18th at 5:30 pm, in the Sala Koch of Palazzo Madama.
The editorial choice differs from politicians’ preference for autobiographies or essays used as propaganda tools. The most recent is “A New Spring. My Story, Our Values, the Progressive Challenge for Italy” by Giuseppe Conte. Before that, we had the unstoppable Matteo Renzi with “Ball in the Center. Politics in the Age of Influencers” and the sequel “The Influencer. Politics in the Age of Obsessions,” in which he accuses Giorgia Meloni of watching polls and social media exactly like him, but with a slightly higher impact. Even Elly Schlein seems to follow the Premier’s path with “The Unexpected. Another Vision of the Future,” a dialogue-interview with almost intimate hints, from childhood farewells in Lugano, the scorching university years in Bologna and where else, to volunteer campaigns for Obama which always fit well.
Obviously, at the top of best and long sellers is “I am Giorgia. My Roots, My Ideas,” the 2021 autobiography. An editorial case whose key is very personal storytelling, memorable is the ball hit in the face because “fat,” which anticipated and accompanied the electoral climb. The private has always been political, even more so since the coming out of personal matters is a social trend. Print runs and sales skyrocket, editions upon editions, record copies, translations in Spain, France, and the United States where “Giorgia’s Vision” boasts a foreword by Vice President JD Vance. A book studied in universities and political analysis centers but, as always for Meloni, also a satirical meme, a pop phenomenon. Also boosted by the viral reel of the eponymous speech: Piazza San Giovanni, 2019, «I am Giorgia, I am a woman, I am a mother, I am Italian, I am Christian».
A rich dish that everyone has dived into a bit. Since I am Giorgia became Prime Minister, dozens of volumes have been counted: from co-signed volumes like the interview with Alessandro Sallusti “Giorgia’s Version,” to unauthorized biographies. From “Giorgia the Daughter of the People” by Italo Bocchino to “The Powerful in the Time of Giorgia” by Luigi Bisignani and Paolo Madron. Up to the calm, as in the author’s style, “The Disaster. Giorgia Meloni and Her Disastrous Government” by Andrea Scanzi.
